Nintendo DS and Cooking...
Drake: Mom, can I bake a cake?
Me: No, not today. I don't have any frosting.
Drake: We can just have it without frosting.
Me: No, I just don't want to deal with the mess. Let's do it another day.
Drake: ugh! I have nothing else to do. My DS isn't working (because he lost the charger) and the only other FUN thing to do is COOK!
Me: BAAAHHHHAAAHHAHAA!!!! COOK? Seriously? COOK? BAAAHHAHAHA!!
Drake: (Laughing too) What?
Me: Nice try with the whole guilt trip, but NO!
I just love my kids! They are always good for a laugh!

Football Coaching?
I picked Drake up from football practice tonight and learned one of his coaching techniques for fellow team mates. It went something like this-
Drake: "I told this kid on my team to suck it up"
Me: (laughing) "you did?"
Drake: "Yeah, I told him I am sick of listening to you whine! Just SUCK IT UP and hit the kid"
Me: (still laughing)"Wow! you sound just like your mother!"
Drake: "Well, I feel like I got front row tickets to listen to him whine! I'm cooolld, I'm Tiirred waa wwaaa waaaaa"
I know I probably shouldn't encourage this type of behavior, but...I already lost the mother of the year award. I might as well enjoy the few months that are left!

Pocatello Marathon
I forgot to mention I had the opportunity to run a half marathon earlier this month. That is 13.1 miles!! I never thought I would, but I DID IT!! It was such an amazing experience. There were something like 1040 people who ran this year. There is a picture here with one of the women I met along the way. We were at mile ten when my sister-in law and I came up on her, and she didn't look so good. I asked her if she was ok? She just looked exahausted and said "No, I think I might quit." I said no way we have 3 miles left we can do it! She decided she would stick with us for a bit. We tried to make goals as we ran like making it to the next fence line or corner and then walking a little, things like that. I thought we were doing pretty good and, my Sister in-law went ahead then a little bit later I went ahead thinking she is ok to make it the rest of the way. Then at the end we had caught up to each other again and pretty much finished at the same time. Her kids came running out of the crowd and ran in with her. It was so sweet!! This experience just made me think that this is what life is all about isn't it? We are all here running our own personal marathons in a way, and isn't it nice when we run into people who encourage and lift us up so we can make it across the finish line!! This woman probably thought I was helping her, but in reality she was helping me. She kept me motivated to finish. I am so blessed to have made such amazing friends in my life and have amazing family around to help me along the way! I love you all so much!! Thank you for all you do. I couldn't do it without you."

Life
A lot of things have happened over the past few weeks and I am not sure if I can remember much of it at this point. Hence the reason for the update. If I don't "write" it all down soon I may never remember.
I really enjoyed summer break and now we are going full speed ahead. The kids and I are all back in school, even little miss Paige. She started preschool and is absolutely loving it. She loves her teacher and brings home "homework" that she sits down and pretends to do while the boys are doing theirs. We have a small toy laptop that she brings out to do her homework as well (just like Mom does). She is so fun!! Drake is in his first year of tackle football and is having a blast. It has been amazing to see the rise in confidence in him as he has participated. He is growing up so fast, I just can't believe it. I swear he was just a baby yesterday. Brendan is still doing Jiu Jitsu and is now playing soccer as well. He is having fun being a 2nd grader. His reading ability has just sored, and he has loved going to the library as there is a larger selection of books he can read this year. Logan just loves life!! Going to school has opened a whole new world for him, a little more Independence and freedom I guess. I am in the first semester of the practical nursing program, and it has been very overwhelming to say the least. I absolutely love everything I am learning, and just can't wait to be done.Derek has become Mr. Mom and superman over the last month. He is so amazing!! I don't know how I could do it all if I didn't have him to help me out.
just one example:I started clinicals this week, and I needed to wear business dress and my lab jacket to my orientation. I thought I would have time to come home between classes and change, but soon found out I really didn't. I had forgotten I needed a flu shot, so I had to rush on my lunch break to do that instead of running straight home. No worries though for I am married to Derek (aka: superman)and with one quick call everything was ready and waiting for me when I walked in the door. He had ironed my pants and lab jacket, and they were hanging nicely, ready for me to throw on and run back out the door. He is amazing!! Oh, did I already say that?? (he made me lunch too)
As you can see things are crazy and busy at our house. I keep hoping that things will slow down. I really don't think that will happen any time soon. I am finding that the older my kids get the busier life gets. I love them all and wouldn't trade my life for anything. I am so grateful to have such an awesome extended family that are so supportive and are always willing to lend a helping hand,and words of encouragement when we need them.

Dogs and RED crayons!!
Our dog Aspen likes to roll in the grass outside, and really rub her nose in the dirt. Today when she went for her usual routine there happen to be a melted red crayon in the grass.

At last summer break has begun. The boys finished up with baseball, tiger ball, and t-ball and I finished my summer class. It is now time time for a break!! much needed I might add. The time is quickly passing and before we know it everyone will be back in school.It seems like the kids just got out of school for the summer and the stores are telling us it is already time to start thinking about school supplies and school clothes... I don't want to think about it right now, so I will wait a few more weeks and try to enjoy our time off.
We went to the park and I took some new pictures of the kids yesterday. When I was looking through them afterwards I couldn't believe how much they all have grown and changed in the last year. Drake is practically a teenager (at least he acts like one). He will be turning ten next month. He wants so badly to be "grown up" and at the same time he enjoys just being a kid. I think we all can remember this stage in our own lives. The time when you listened in on all your parents conversations and thought you knew what was going on. Then your parents would get frustrated because you would tell people the things you "knew" only to find out you didn't know anything UGH!! What a difficult time in a child's life right?? Drake will start his first year of tackle football this fall. He is very excited, seems like he has been waiting forever to be old enough to play. He is so much fun.
Brendan has recently started doing Brazilian Jiu Jistsu, and loves every minute of it. It has been great to watch him learn the moves and gain confidence in himself, and become more aggressive in the sport. He is very excited about turning eight this December and being baptized. Very big milestone in ones life.
Logan will be six this October, and starting kindergarten. I can't believe my baby boy will be in kindergarten. Where does the time go? he is so excited to go to the same school as Drake and Brendan. Makes him feel like a BIG kid. He lost his first tooth last week and told the older boys "I lost a tooth and that means I am a big kid." He also told them that "I didn't even cry when it happened so that makes me a "man" cause "mans" don't cry!" he makes us all laugh.
Paige is going to be four in October and will be going to her first year of pre-school. We usually don't put our kids in pre-school until they are five, but we thought it would be good for her since all the boys will be at school. It will give her something to do. She is our little princess, and loves doing everyone and everything's hair. She is usually off in her own little land and plays very well by herself in that little land. She has a little cousin Elle that she loves playing with as well(I think because Elle will let her be the the boss). It is fun to have a little girl.
We plan on a couple of camping trips, a day at Lagoon (amusement park in Utah), and probably some swimming. Then back into the swing of things. Nothing super exciting this summer. It is always nice to have a break though and have the time to spend together without having to worry about everyone's schedules. I will try and post pictures as I get them from all our summer fun. Hope you all enjoy yours!!!

Where have the Combs and Brushes gone???
Many of us know that Paige loves to do hair. Lately she has been taking the combs and brushes out of the bathroom to do her barbies and little ponies hair(one can only handle having their hair done for so long. She has had to turn to her dolls.) Most of the time I am OK with this because she brings them back to the bathroom, or I can find them in her room which is not far from the bathroom. I don't know where she has been doing hair lately? My combs and brushes are missing and I need them to do hair? Today, even Paige was looking for the combs and brushes.
Paige: I need a brush to do my ponies hair
Me: That's fine, but make sure you put them back when you are done.
Paige: OK, I will
Paige: Where is the brush? Where's the pink comb?
Me: I don't know. You had them out last. Where are they?
Paige: Oh I forgot!
Me: Well you need to go get them. Do you know where they are?
Paige: Oh Yeah
Me: Go get them then
Paige: I can't
Me: Why?
Paige: You tell me where they are.
Me: I don't know where they are. You said you knew.
Paige: (laughing) Tell me where they are Mom!
Me: (now I was laughing) I really don't know where you had them.
Paige:(more serious) Tell me Mom.
Me: You had them out. You have to go find them.
She went off with the one brush that was in the drawer. Then about 10 minutes later she came back upstairs to find me.
Paige: Tahh Dahh (she had the pink comb she was looking for)
I just had to laugh, kids are so much fun!

Rest and Relaxation...
I have thoroughly enjoyed my week off. I haven't had to be anywhere or do anything. This doesn't happen very often, so I have been trying to take full advantage. Derek and I were even able to watch a couple of movies in the middle of the week (crazy I know). We can be a couple of real party animals at times. I took Brendan to Jiu-Jitsu and actually stayed to watch, and took Drake to practice... This may not sound like rest and relaxation to some of you, but for me it is. I haven't been able to do these things that I used to despise doing. I found that when you don't have the opportunity to do something (you thought you hated doing) sometimes you find out just how much you really loved it. I love, love, love being a Mom, and miss my kids like crazy when school is in. I am also very grateful for the opportunity I have to go back to school. I know it is difficult right now, but it will be so worth it in the end. There is a plan that I don't fully understand right now and I only hope that I will see the bigger picture as time goes on. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy the little moments in life that matter most.

Almost there!!
I can't believe the semester is almost over. It seems like just last week I thought it was never going to end. I just have to get through tuesday of next week, then I can have a break for almost a week and half before the summer session starts. Yeah!! I just have to take one summer class and it is only one credit, so I am hoping it won't be too difficult.
Things have been crazy, busy around our house. Drake started playing baseball, (I think Derek secretly did too. He is helping coach and loving every minute of it.) Brendan and Derek started Jiu-Jitsu, and the rest of us get to run everyone where they need to be and get them there on time. It is so funny because I have had this conversation with my mother in-law at least a dozen times. How the heck do get everyone where they need to be and stay sane while doing it. She did it with 5 kids 4 of which where boys although their girl probably played more than the boys ever did??? Derek abd I are constantly trading places and either picking up or dropping kids where they need to be. I am so grateful that my kids (husband too) have the opportunity to try the things they love, but somedays I just want to stay at home. Life is busy but I really wouldn't have it any other way.

April Fools Day
Logan was watching the older boys play jokes on each other throughout the day and thought it would be funny to play one on Mom.
As we were driving in the car:
Logan: "Mom"
Me: "yes"
Logan: " I have a surprise for you"
Me: " You do!! what is it?"
Logan: " April Fools!!" (followed by extreme laughter)
Me: laughing and a bit confused (there was nothing, no surprise)
He thought he was pretty smart and everyone was laughing so, he felt like he got me pretty good. Kids are so much fun!! I wondered how long it took him to come up with that one. He is our little comedian, keeps us laughing anyway!!

Can't believe its over already!!!
Spring break came and went it is now time to get back to our regular programed schedule. (We didn't make it to see Amie sadly they had a death in Liam's family. They went up to Washington for the funeral.) We stayed home and enjoyed the wonderful Idaho, spring weather. Although I am sure it was the same in Utah. We had a good time just lounging around the house. We would get going when we were "ready" which most days was around noon. The kids had a great time playing video games at will and eating junk till they were sick of it. The boys had a couple of wrestling tournaments so that kept us busy and Drake had his pinewood derby,the kids all spent a night at Grandma Daniels (which is always nice)Derek and I had our night on the town, we also had a baby blessing this weekend. Seems there is always something going on. I guess that is life. I used to think it would slow down a bit as my children got older, but it is only busier as they are involved in everything. They are easier to handle now that they are all pretty self sufficient. I can almost just show up. Ha Ha!! As long as I bring snacks we can go about anywhere. Who knew they would need food to sustain their little lives??? They are so much fun and I am so glad we all got to take a break and enjoy each others company. I am now looking forward to summer break. That thought alone should get me through the rest of the semester. It will be over before I know it. I may not write again until then so...

Spring Break
I had to take a break from studying for a minute. I am so excited for spring break!! I am afraid my mind is ahead of me on this one though. I am having a hard time staying focused. I just have a quiz tonight in my biology lab and then a test in the morning for lecture (Anatomy and Physiology). I love the things I am learning but... I desperately need a break. I watch my kids play while I study and I find myself in envy over it all. I guess my day will come when I can go play again. I sound so pathetic. I don't have to go to school I could just stay home and play all day but, I choose to go and learn and hopefully one day graduate. I really love it!! I just get tired of studying. Unfortunatly I am not one of those people who don't have to study. Maybe I got jipped in the gene pool?? Anyway, I just can't wait untill this week is over. We are going up to Utah to stay with my sister, Amie for a few days and hopefully get to visit with some friends. YEAH!! so excited!!

School
I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to go to school. Having said that I AM STRESSIN OUT holy assignment city!!! I feel a bit overwhelmed today as I try to finish up assignments that are due and studying for tests and a quiz tonight. I love that every instructor feels that they are your only class and, can load you down with lots of wonderful busy work. AHHH the beauty of trying to get an education. I had to take a break and vent my frustrations. I am off to study some more and finish up a power point for a presentation I get to give in Microbiology on Hepatitis B and C (due Saturday yes, Saturday lab all day) doesn't this sound like so much fun? I might start using this space to vent a little more. I feel much better now LOL

Playing Picture TAG
Ok, I went to my 4th album which happens to be my 4th child and pulled the 4th picture. I can't believe that she is now three. This picture was taken while we were still in the hospital, which was when were living in Washington. I remember being so excited to finally be having a girl and a little apprehensive that they may have been wrong and she was really a boy. What a relief when she was born a GIRL. She has been so much fun and we just love having her as a part of our family. Girls add a different spice to life that is for sure. It is funny that this is the picture I pulled because just a few days ago we had a little niece born and today Paige went with grandma to see baby Emma. She came home and told me she "Mommy I want to be a baby like baby Emma". I told her she was a baby once and you can't go back. I also told her how babies have to poop and pee in a diaper and she wrinkled her nose and laughed.I guess I should show her these pics of when she was a baby. I don't know what I am saying she will always be my baby so...This is where it is your turn if you are reading this then TAG your it!! You have to go to your 4th album and post your 4th picture from that album. I can't wait to see your pics!! Thanks Jenny this is a great idea.

Winter can leave!!
Winter officially has my permission to leave. I am so ready for SUMMER!! skip spring bring on the heat!!!! Today as I was walking to class and the cold wind was so rudely (if that is a word) blowing in the direction I needed to walk. I decided it was okay for winter to leave. I want to feel the warmth of the sun on my face instead of that nasty cold. I want to break out the shorts and flip flops. I want to sit in my lawn chair, feet in the kiddy pool, sipping an ice cold lemonade. I know sounds good doesn't it? You know it does I really don't think I am alone in this. My kids need to get out of the house and get some fresh air, fresh warm air. Anyway, thought I would vent hopefully tomorrow won't be so cold. One can only hope.

New Baby!!!
I think I can speak for the entire Daniels family when I say "I can't wait to meet our new little niece/grandaughter/cousin". The time is quickly approching when she will be born. Everyone is so excited to see her and hold her. Melody has been kind of selfish. We only get to poke at her and I don't really think that is fair. I hope Melody and Jared don't mind that I posted a picture of that cute little "baby" belly. I am so glad we were able to get those pics today. We have been attempting to get those done for a few months now. Glad we did it before she is born. Well, we all can't wait to meet Emma and add a new addition to the family. Love You All!!!

The Cost of Raising Kids
My friend has this posted on her blog and I loved it so much I had to post it here too. I loved it!! hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family. Talk about priceshock! That doesn't even touch college tuition. But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.
It translates into:
* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month, or
* $171.08 a week.
* That's a mere $24.24 a day!
* Just over a dollar an hour. Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if youwant to be 'rich.' Actually, it is just the opposite.
What do you get for your $160,140.00?
* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
* Glimpses of God every day.
* Giggles under the covers every night.
* More love than your heart can hold.
* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.
* A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.
* A partner for blowing bubbles and flying kites.
* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your stocks performed that day.
For $160,140.00, you never have to grow up. You get to:
* finger-paint,
* carve pumpkins,
* play hide-and-seek,
* catch lightning bugs, and
* never stop believing in Santa Claus.
You have an excuse to:
* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,
* watch Saturday morning cartoons,
* go to Disney movies, and
* wish on stars.
* You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigeratormagnets and collect! spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand printsset in clay for Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminaljustice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match. In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all thepower to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a brokenheart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them withoutlimits, so one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. That isquite a deal for the price!!!!!!! Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren & great-grandchildren!!!!!!!
It's the best investment you'll make!
The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18and came up with $160,140.00 for a middle income family. Talk about priceshock! That doesn't even touch college tuition. But $160,140.00 isn't so bad if you break it down.
It translates into:
* $8,896.66 a year,
* $741.38 a month, or
* $171.08 a week.
* That's a mere $24.24 a day!

Trying to keep up!!
I might be crazy trying to update my blog. I thought I would get it done over Christmas break (yeah right). So, school has begun again and we are all so excited. (again, yeah right) I will be so glad when it is all over I know by then I will think it is worth it. No, I am so excited to be in school and learning. I get to apply to my program next month so that is exciting!! I feel fortunate to have such a supportive family and especially a supportive husband. He is playing Mr. Mom more this semester than he probably likes but he is such a trooper. I kinda love him he is amazing!!
Our children are still growing like weeds and amazing us everyday. It is crazy how fast the time flys and how quickly our children grow. Drake just started basketball this month and loves it. Brendan should be able to play as well we will see what happens. Logan is in preschool and loves it. He has made new friends and feels like part of the Big Boys now! We just took him in for a hearing screening because we were concerned he wasn't hearing well. It turns out he is hearing at about a whisper. Poor kid, I feel bad now because there have been so many times I have gotten frustrated with him thinking he just wasn't listening. Now I know there really is a problem I feel like a jerk. He will be going to the ENT to get tubes in a couple of weeks. Hopefully things will be better for him after that. Paige is just growing right along with the rest of them. She just recently got her ears pierced. She is infatuated with earrings and is so excited to have some of her own now. She is having a difficult time waiting to change them so, we have told her when Aunt Melody has her baby she can change her earrings. So, now she keeps saying I can change my earrings when baby Emma comes?? She is so much fun!! Derek is now working the night shift and taking one online class while he waits to apply to his program and I am in school most days all morning. The schedule kinda stinks but it works. one of these days I will have more time to keep this updated but, until then I will have to try and do the best I can. We love you all and miss you.
